Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry primarily focuses on children from birth through adolescence.  Particular emphasis is given to the proper maintenance and care of baby teeth, which are vitally important to developing healthy adult teeth, proper speech production, holding space for permanent teeth, and good overall health.

Other important functions of pediatric dentistry:

Education – In our child-friendly office, our staff help kids understand the importance of keeping teeth clean, strong, and healthy.  In addition, they advise parents on disease prevention, trauma prevention, good eating habits, and other aspects of the home hygiene routine.

Monitoring growth – Dr. Day and his staff continuously track a child's oral growth and development, so that they can anticipate dental issues and quickly intervene if treatment is necessary.

Prevention – Dr. Day and his staff are happy to discuss how to establish good eating and oral care habits, which will help reduce the chance of later tooth decay.  In addition to regular check ups and dental cleanings, dental sealants and topical fluoride may be recommended for young teeth to help prevent decay.  Dr. Day and his staff can also provide suggestions for thumb-sucking/pacifier cessation and demonstrate proper brushing and flossing.

Intervention – In some cases, Dr. Day and his staff may discuss with parents the possibility of early oral treatments, such as orthodontics, to help a child who has malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth when mouth is closed), sleep issues (snoring and sleep apnea), or a lack of proper space for adult teeth.
